Screen B14, Falasteen on Film and The Heath Bookshop Present - Sahara is not for Sale (1977)
The Heath Bookshop
Join us for another brilliant cinema screening at The Heath Bookshop!
A vital political documentary from the iconoclastic filmmaker and journalist Jocelyne Saab, screens on Saturday 3rd October at 5pm.
We will also be screening a short film programmed by Falasteen on Film to compliment this film and it’s themes.
The biggest film of the year, The Odyssey, is storming the box office despite shooting scenes in Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara. The red carpet isa rolled out for Hollywood while indigenous Sahrawi filmmakers and journalists who attempt to document everyday life under Moroccan occupation can end up in prison.
Jocelyne Saab’s documentary from the heart of the desert shows the the conflict between the Algerians and the Moroccans at El-Aiounet, the Saharan resistance on the Polisario Front. A Conflict which is ongoing, with the Sahrawi people languishing in desert refugee camps or living under a suffocating military police state.
Join us for this revolutionary film that prompted Morocco to ban its director for life – an act that did not stop her from continuing to cover critical political issues and fighting against injustice.
Tickets are available now.
